UTM Link Builder

Build correctly encoded UTM campaign URLs with proper handling of existing parameters. Copy the result and use it anywhere — with per-field explanations and examples.

Private by design: this tool runs 100% in your browser. Nothing you type or upload is sent to a server.
UTM tags alone don't track clicks — the destination website needs analytics (such as Google Analytics) to record them.

What each field means

Destination URL
The page people land on when they click the link. Your existing query parameters and page anchors are preserved.
utm_source
Which site or sender the traffic comes from, such as "newsletter", "instagram", or "google".
utm_medium
The marketing medium, such as "email", "social", or "cpc". Use consistent names so reports group correctly.
utm_campaign
The name of the campaign, such as "spring_sale" or "product_launch". Stick to lowercase with underscores.
utm_term
Optional. The paid-search keyword behind the click. Mostly useful for search ad campaigns.
utm_content
Optional. Distinguishes variants of the same campaign, such as "top_banner" versus "sidebar_link" in A/B tests.

Examples

Newsletter link:

https://example.com/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=spring_sale

Social bio link:

https://example.com/guide?utm_source=instagram&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=profile_link

Tips

  • Use a consistent naming convention (lowercase, underscores) so your analytics reports stay tidy.
  • Never change the meaning of a tag mid-campaign — historical data becomes impossible to compare.
  • UTM tags are visible in the address bar; keep them short and avoid sensitive words.

Frequently asked questions

Do UTM tags work without Google Analytics?

UTM tags are just labels on a URL. They only become useful when the destination site runs analytics that reads them, such as Google Analytics. Without analytics on the destination, the tags are ignored.

Will this break my existing URL parameters?

No. The builder keeps any query parameters and page anchors already in your destination URL and adds the UTM parameters alongside them.

Should I tag internal links on my own site?

Generally no. UTM tags are meant for traffic coming from outside. Tagging your own internal links overwrites the original traffic source in your reports.
